ABC to air show about cross-dressing amid controversy
ABC’s new sitcom Work It is stirring up controversy in the LGBT community, even sparking a petition not to air the show.
The show is about unemployed men who cross-dress in order to get jobs. Critics say the show mocks trans people, but ABC president Paul Lee stands by it 100%.
“I make absolutely no excuses for that show. We didn’t think this room would like it, and I don’t think we have a problem with that.”
Lee added: “I’m a Brit, it is in my contract that I have to do one cross-dressing show a year; I was brought up on Monty Python. What can I do?”Yeesh. This show concept is in pretty poor taste. Thoughts?

It’s probably not the best time to be airing a show like this. There’s just too much drama going on right now. Don’t add fuel to the fire.

What the hell were they thinking? I mean really? the entire concept is ridiculous. Men have a harder time getting work than women? Bullshit.
-
waylandswall answered:
The concept is in poor taste for a few reasons: those outlined above and aesthetically. It’s a “gimmick show” and a bad one at that.

Paul Lee’s comments are in pretty poor taste. Chalk it up to ABC taking one step forward and two giant leaps back.

The ppl on the show aren’t claiming 2 b trans,or claim 2 cross dress in their free time. They’re doing it 2 b more appealing to the workforce.

As a trans* IDed individual, I don’t like to be policed about what I wear and how I identify and I think it’s wrong to do to others.

Ugh, at least when the guys from Monty Python did it they did it because their skits had no women played by women as part of the humor.

I think it will be entertaining. Dressers are everywhere and do not reflect on Trans people who are very different.

It’s impossible to form an opinion based solely on a description of premise. It all depends on how they address the subject.

I haven’t seen the show, but if it does MOCK people who are trans, then it needs to be off of the air.

Freaking out over this is just stupid.. Really. There is a difference between cross-dressing, wearing a diguise, and being transgender.

I don’t know. Sure, it’s giving actors jobs, but this may be offensive to transexuals. Yeah I abstain… good luck, guys.
