Who are you? Why should I trust you?

I’m Camille, a 21-year-old journalism student and gay rights activist. I publish this blog entirely by myself for zero profit, though a couple of others help me manage AskGayWrites. I source my content as thoroughly as possible and try to make it very clear whether I’m stating facts or my own opinions. Above all, I’m really passionate about this stuff, so I’m intrinsically motivated to get it right.

Can you promote my blog/GSA/organization/personal project?

Generally, no. I’ll look at anything you send me, but I can’t promote blogs left and right without taking away from the news aspect of the blog.

However, if you think your GSA, organization, school or whatever is doing something newsworthy, feel free to send it to me. If I think it’s newsworthy and people will like reading it, I’ll put it up. If not, no hard feelings - I appreciate your messages, but I’m not here to promote your group.

Can you help me with ideas/a thesis/support facts for my research paper/class project/essay?

No. Do your own homework. Feel free to use this site for ideas, sources and background information, but please don’t expect me to outline your paper for you. If you’d like to include me in some other way (i.e. interview me for an article), drop me a line and we’ll talk.

I’ve got a great idea for something you should blog about! Where can I submit it?

Send it via the AskGayWrites! That’s where you can submit your own content, questions or anything else you feel like sharing. If you’ve got a news tip, feel free to email me at gaywritesblog@gmail.com. No promises it’ll get posted, but thanks for thinking of me!

How come you haven’t responded to my Ask yet?

I get tons of them, and I try to answer them in the order they come in. I promise I read them all and I’ll answer the ones I’m able to, but there will be a bit of a delay. I’m sorry!

      What’s the deal with merch?

Behold: stickers! GayWrites stickers are 3 inches by 3 inches, look like that little icon in the Merch section, and cost $2 each plus $1 shipping. Money from stickers goes to the upkeep of the site, like its domain and redesign. In the next few weeks, GayWrites will officially function as a nonprofit helping school gay-straight alliances, so merch will benefit that cause as well.

Orders will usually be shipped the Friday after they are placed, so they’ll take about 7 to 10 days to arrive. Because I’m sending these individually using good old USPS, there’s no way to track them, so I’ll use the honor system to deal with mail errors. If you order stickers and they never show up, drop me an email and I’ll send more.

Is same-sex marriage legal in ________?

Let me Google that for you. No, but really, there are some things you don’t need my help for.

      I have a question you didn’t answer.

      gaywritesblog@gmail.com awaits! :)

    About

GayWrites.org is a not-for-profit blog committed to fair and factual coverage of current events, media issues and cultural happenings in the LGBT community. When mainstream media doesn't tell the whole story, GayWrites seeks to fill in the gaps with the stories that might not make national headlines, covering news as accurately as possible. GayWrites highlights the rights and wrongs of LGBT media coverage, pointing out what's been done well and what could be improved, all with a sense of humor. This blog is non-partisan, pro-knowledge and pro-equality. Read up, speak up.

GayWrites does not own any of the photos, cartoons or videos displayed on this site. All writing is original unless quoted or specified otherwise. If you see something that's yours and credit isn't given, please let me know so it can be immediately fixed. This blog is run by Camille Beredjick, a 20-something college student studying journalism, gender studies and all things gay. She likes cupcakes, books, marching bands and reading your emails - but mostly reading your emails.
